When the train ride to your holiday destination is taking too long, or waiting in a traffic jam is testing the family’s last nerve, it’s time for a round of “Vacation Categories.” This varied version of the classic game is teeming with search terms that really pack a punch and call for your creativity and ingenuity. The game is the perfect way to pass the time for anyone who finds the standard game much too boring. Of course, “Vacation Categories” also provides plenty of fun even when you aren’t on vacation.
How to play: Before each round, a letter is determined by one player saying “A” out loud and then silently going through the alphabet until another player shouts “Stop!” Every term in that round must start with the letter the first player landed on. Now the players try to fill in the individual fields in a row as quickly as possible. The first person to find all the terms for that row calls out “Stop!” Then, the points for that row are calculated. The player with the most points at the end wins.
