Our partner, Conacado, is a cooperative representing 10,000 smallholder cocoa farmers that has initiated the transition to well-fermented organic and Fairtrade cocoa for customers with high quality standards. They have built large facilities across seven regions on the island, where the cocoa is fermented and dried under constant quality control.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOrganic cocoa promotes biodiversity on the plantations in two ways: it improves the content of organic matter in the soil, which helps maintain soil life at a certain level, and improves the soil's water retention (the soil's sponge effect).
