A special friendship that saves lives
Jonas, the brave lighthouse keeper, finds himself in a dangerous situation during a boat trip. His red ship with the yellow flag sinks, and he cries out for help. Suddenly, a gigantic whale named Blau emerges from the depths of the ocean and saves Jonas's life. Blau's strength and size are impressive, and Jonas is grateful for the rescue. The next day, Jonas returns, expectant and excited, to see his new friend again. But Blau is not there. Jonas becomes worried and decides to search for him. When Jonas finds him, he sees that Blau is sick. His belly is full of plastic bags that have poisoned him. Jonas acts quickly and removes the bags from Blau's belly so that he will soon feel better. The next morning, Jonas returns and sees that Blau is healthy and happy again. He leaps out of the ocean full of joy, showing Jonas that he is feeling well again. Jonas is happy and gives his big friend a grateful hug.
This beautiful picture book is a perfect example of how environmental protection can be explained to children in an understandable way. The story of Jonas and Blau shows children, in a simple and easy-to-understand manner, why marine pollution caused by plastic waste is harmful to whales, fish, and other sea creatures, and how important it is to protect our oceans and their inhabitants.
The book also conveys an important message about the friendship between humans and animals and how we should look out for one another.
