The foundation "TARA (Trade Alternative Reform Actions) Projects" was established as early as 1973. The non-profit organization initially worked as a development aid agency, but later increasingly focused on Fair Trade as a means of generating income for disadvantaged population groups.
Since its founding, TARA has supported artisans in the production and marketing of their products according to Fair Trade principles. TARA actively fights against the social injustices to which the participating micro-producers are exposed. The goal is to combat poverty, exploitation, child labor, and illiteracy, and to enable the participating micro-producers to live a dignified life.
Education as a human right: Although the right to education is established in India, its enforcement proves difficult. Women and children from poor backgrounds, in particular, lack access to education. TARA provides women with vocational training, which is intended to form the basis for a secure income and a path out of the poverty trap. The organization operates 10 educational facilities in various parts of northern India, where more than 1,000 children can learn.
